The BC Philatelic Society, an affiliate of the RPSC (Royal Philatelic Society of Canada) and the APS (American Philatelic Society), meets most weeks,* September through June, at West Burnaby United Church, 6050 Sussex Avenue in Burnaby, just a short walk from Metrotown SkyTrain Station. We welcome visitors!

* NOTE: AS OF MAY, 2008, EVENING MEETINGS OF THE BC PHILATELIC SOCIETY ON THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH WILL BE REPLACED BY DAYTIME MEETINGS ON THE PREVIOUS MONDAY. SEE OUR SCHEDULE FOR DETAILS.

BC PHIL ENTERS THE BLOGGER WORLD

Derren Carman has created a BC Phil blog which will give members and guests a way to discuss issues related to the club or to philately in general. It will be moderated, and will depend on YOUR input. If you have kudos to confer on club members (or brickbats to throw, in the interests of improving the hobby, of course), log on to the BC Philatelic Society blog.

NEW ON THE WEB SITE — "MIKE'S ADVENTURES IN EUROPE"

This spring, BC Phil member Mike Strachan undertook a solo adventure in Europe, travelling by train, car, and foot on the same trails taken by his father's and uncle's Canadian armoured regiments from D-Day in France through the end of the war in Germany.

Mike kept a meticulous journal along the way; now you can read "Mike's Adventures in Europe" in entirety.

BC150 EXHIBITION — A NOTABLE SUCCESS!

BC150, the club-level exhibition sponsored on June 21 by the BC Philatelic Society, is over but for the memories, and they are great!

Our venue, the hall at the West Burnaby United Church, worked out well. We had good attendance, interesting exhibits, and an active bourse of seven dealers. It wasn’t Vanpex, but smaller one- or perhaps two-day shows like BC150, at this time anyway, are a far more realistic enterprise for our club to attempt than a large national-level show. Many people who enjoyed BC150 are already asking for a similar show next year.

Thanks to BC 150 Chair Trevor Larden, Exhibits Chair Derren Carman, Judges Arlene Sullivan and Norman Sung, frame transporters Mike Sagar and Ed Hawkinson, President Duff Malkin (who made the trek out to the church on Friday night to unlock it so the frames could be carried into the hall),the several other club members who volunteered to help with the many tasks necessary for a successful exhibition. Thanks especially to the dealers, without whom philately would not long survive.

A thank-you goes as well to BC Phil members Gray Scrimgeour, Bill Liaskis, and Clayton Lam for providing images of the show. Click on the photo below to see a selection of their BC150 images.
BC150 Bourse
Derren Carman produced some special BC150 "local post" labels (a "digital strip of three" is shown below)...
and a variety of commemorative show covers, incuding this example:
